According to Norman Davis, Nancy moved to Spartanburg and lived with her son, Thomas Joseph (T.J.)Allen.She kept her church membership at Mills River Baptist Church in NC.
On 8 June 2004, I found an obituary in the 22 March 1905 edition of the Spartanburg Journal, page 8.It reads: "Mrs. Nancy Allen, age 85, died at her home in Whitney yesterday after an illness of sometime. The funeral was held this afternoon at Boiling Springs."Knowing that Nancy was a Baptist, I drove over the same day and visited the Boiling Springs Baptist Church cemetery on Route 9 in Boiling Springs, SC.I didn't find Nancy's grave but I found T.J. & Isabell's grave sites. There was another Allen grave beside theirs. It was Ellie Allen Jones b. 3 Jan 1884 - d. 25 March 1920.I assume it was their daughter. This is Nancy's son Thomas Joseph and his wife and probably their daughter Rosa Eloise.
On 9 June 2004 I spoke with Evelyn Henderson by phone.Evelyn is the historian for Boiling Springs Bap. Ch. and she confirmed that Nancy Allen is buried in an unmarked grave at BSBC cemetery. She recorded all the graves in the cemetery. For information on the unmarked graves she visited Floyd's Mortuary on North Church Street in Spartanburg, SC.She said Floyd's buried most of the people at BSBC cem. and they keep old records in their basement.
Evelyn found the funeral records for Nancy. It states she was buried on 22 March 1905 at 3:30 p.m. in an unmarked grave at the BSBC cemetery. The funeral record was signed by T. J. Allen.Evelyn wasn't sure if there was any other information on Nancy on this record so I will have to pay them a visit and see if I can get down in their basement and look.Note: Evelyn said Nancy died on the 22nd but she took this info. from Floyd's and I think she confused the burial with the death.
Evelyn said that T. J., Isabelle and Ellie are buried on row 8.On row 3 there are two more Allens - Marion M. Allen (d. 1967) and Farrie E. Allen w/o Marion M. (1876 - 1925).According to Norman Davis, Marion M. is the son of T. J. Allen. I've asked Evelyn Henderson to get me a price for erecting a small marker for Nancy.I think the future genealogists will appreciate this.
