The name Adoniram appears in my Allen family too. My gg grandmother was Charlotte Allen. She married Hugh McAlpin in NC.
I don't know who the parents were for Charlotte. I do know that she was born 1823 in Guilford, NC. She had a sister named Catherine who married Azariah Williams and they named a son Adoniram Azariah. That name combined with "Allen" caught my eye.
All I have been able to figure out about Charlotte is that her family had been in NC for 2 generations. Her cousin, Allen G. Thurman is discussed below (he ran as the vp with Grover Cleveland):
William Allen, governor of Ohio was born at Edenton, Chowan, NC in 1807 and taken by his sister Mrs. Thurman, mother of Allen G. Thurman to Lynchburg, VA. Allen G. Thurman was the originator of the phrase "fifty four forty or fight". He died 11 Jul 1879. Rutherford B. Hayes gov. of OH ran against Allen G. Thurman and won. Allen GRANBERY Thurman. Allen's parents were Pleasant Thurman and Mary Granbery Allen (b. 1790). They married 21 May 1811 in Edentown, Chowan, NC.
If you've ever heard of Charlotte, I'd appreciate any information. Mary Ann
