I have just discovered that "Summie" first name was William. He would have been born in 1845, If I remember correctly. He also served in the Civil War. The info posted below was taken from the records complied in a series of books on the Soldiers who served in The Civil War from North Carolina. I can't remember the exact title at this time. But here is the information:
Williams S. Allen
Born in Cleveland County where he resided as a farmer prior to enlisting in Cleveland County at age 17, March 18, 1862, as a substitute. Reported absent without leave on September 5, 1862. Returned to duty on February 10, 1863. Deserted on June 12, 1863. Arrested on June 17, 1863, and was confined at Castle Thunder Prison, Richmond, Virginia. Reported in confinement at Richmond through December, 1863. Returned to duty on and unspecified date. Reported present in May-August, 1864. Paroled at Farmville, Virginia, April 11-21, 1865.
