Hello Martin, Just found your relpy to my message here, apologies for being so long in getting back to you.I can most often be found at the MOODY page here. We apparently have several surnames in common and from Freeport to boot.We must be related somehow. Moody is my family name and they (from what I can tell so far anyway), came from Scotland originally (ancient ancestor Ingram MOODIE - Scot POW to Lynn, MA in 1650 captured from the BAttle of Dunbar in Scotland on Sept. 3, 1650). Several of us are now in the processes of trying to determine if this Ingram (Also seen spelled Engram and Engrome and Moodie/Moody) is the Father of Clement Moody of Exeter, NH.There is Much evidence to support this theory but very little in the way of actual records.
Anyway, I am related to the Coffin's, Chase's, Allen's, Estes, Libby's, Pettingill's etc. etc. all from the Freeport and Harpswell Area's of Cumberland Co.I have/had many many relatives from those areas.
I Just found out that Julia F. Chandler was a daughter of Edward Chandler who apparently died quite young. His wife Almira (Webster) Chandler was living in Freeport until she died.Living with her among her other children, was daughter Julia F. Chandler who in the 1860 Freeport census was only 2 years old. Tracking her through the census' though, I found that Julia married late, not until 1896 in Freeport to Wilbur S. ALLAN (also seen spelled Allen)...it alternates every single census...from Allan to Allen. What is peculiar about this is that in the 1900 Freeport census, Wilbur S. Allan age 35 b. NY farmer, and wife Julia F. b. Nov. 1857 age 42 b. ME are living only 2 doors away from some of my Coffin relatives (only she married a Varney...so she is under his name). But by the 1910 Freeport census, Julia is using the middle initial of "C." ???Wilbur is still listed as Wilbur S. Allen age 45 b. NY farmer, but Julia is now listed as Julia "C." wife age 52 b. ME. In the 1920 Freeport census, she is listed as Julia "S. C."- wife age 62 b. ME. By 1930 Julia must have died becuse Wilbur S. Allan now age 65 is listed as a 'widow' farmer b. NY.
I have no idea why Julia would change her middle initials like that.I can track her all the way back to when she was 2 years old and listed as Julia "F." CHANDLER. Maybe she was senile in her older age or something.
Anyway, I think you and I have chatted before about our common relatives, your name sounds familiar.I think I told you this once before too that when my Nana died, among her old pictures which I inherited, I found a picture of she and my grandfather when they were very young, and next to them was an elderly lady with glasses on that my Nana wrote was "Mrs. Herrick".This picture was taken in Freeport, so if any of your Herrick's came from there or ever lived there or in the area, she is probably one of your relatives.IF I can find this old picture I will email you a copy if you'd like. Take care, and if you ever need to find me in a hurry just leave me a message at the MOODY page here...I'm Always there posting info. Thanks again for the info.
