Here is another set of excerpts for the ALLEN surname from the "Married" and "Died" columns of the "Bucks County Intelligencer." These appeared regularly on page 3 (and less frequently on page 2) of each issue. These are from the timeframe of 27 Sept 1876 to 27 March 1880.(The second batch I submitted was erroneously termed "abstracts."These are more properly called excerpts.)
In January of 1876 the paper began publishing twice weekly (Wed and Sat), but then in July of 1879 they resumed their earlier schedule of only once a week, on Saturdays.
It is interesting to note that very few marriages occurred from June through September each year. This is the opposite pattern from the occurrence of summer weddings we now see so often. Most weddings were performed in December and January of each year, when there would have been far less to do on the farms where so many people lived.
One also notices that with the severe weather of winter, the incidence of deaths increased markedly during a similar December to March season. It is remarkable how many people succumbed to bacterial and respiratory infections.Thank Goodness for our present day vaccines!
No warranty is made as to my thoroughness in searching the papers or for 100% accuracy in the excerpts.Happy hunting.
