I am descended from Robert Allen, Sr., and Jr., of Augusta Co., VA.Robert Allen, Jr., (1741-1788) married Jean (Jane) Turk. There is no existing marriage record, however, there is a marriage license issued to Robert Allen in Augusta Co., VA, on 4/3/1762, but no wife's name is given. This could have been Robert Allen, Sr.'s second marriage or Robert Allen, Jr.'s marriage to Jean (Jane) Turk.
There is a baptism record of Jean (Jane) Turk, daughter of Thomas Turk, in the Tinkling Spring Presbyterian Church records (Fisherville, VA/Augusta Co.) showing her baptism on April 9, 1749.
Thomas Turk wrote his will in Augusta Co., VA in 1809.He was married twice.First to Margaret __?__.Second to Mary Gleaves. In his Will he provided for his children by Mary Gleaves with specific bequests. For his children by his first wife, "Jane Allen", Elizabeth Gleaves" and Thomas Turk, Jr., he provided $1.00.So, Thomas Turk's daughter, Jean (Jane) married a Mr. Allen.
Jane Allen and her 11 children with Robert Allen, Jr., moved from Augusta Co., VA, to Cumberland Co., KY about 1798.There are deeds evidencing the sale of her land in Augusta Co., VA in 1798.Jane Allen died in Cumberland Co., KY in 1845 at the age of 97 (her tombstone is still there and it says at age 97).One of their children was Nathan Allen (my ancestor), born 1781.He married Sarah Gleaves, daughter of William Gleaves, brother to Mary Gleaves, second wife of Thomas Turk
Another child of Robert Allen, Jr., and Jane Turk was Sampson Allen.Sampson married Jane Ritchey. They had a son named Robert Allen who married Amanda Melvina Turk.Amanda Malvina Turk was the Daughter of Thomas Turk, III, and Margaret (Peggy) Gleaves.Margaret (Peggy) Gleaves was the daughter of William Gleaves and Elizabeth Turk.Elizabeth Turk was the sister of Jean (Jane) Turk who married Robert Allen, Jr.William Gleaves was the brother to Mary Gleaves, second wife of Thomas Turk.Thomas Turk, III, was the son of Thomas Turk, JR., and Ann Rhea.Thomas Turk, Jr., was the son of Thomas Turk, Sr., and his first wife, a full sister of Jean (Jane) Turk Allen.
Nathan Allen had a bible. It was published in 1824.Entered on page 9 of his bible was a listing of the birth dates of the children of William Gleaves and Elizabeth Turk, including his wife, Sarah Gleaves.Although he did not say his parents were Robert Allen and Jean (Jane) Turk, his son, Nathan Perry Allen (born 1830, my ancestor)wrote a comment in the bible that he dated May 1853 saying "Parents of Nathan Allen - Robert Allen and Jane Allen his wife of Augusta County, Va.She died 96 years old in Cumberland Co., Ky 1847"
Nathan Perry Allen, son of Nathan Allen (above) had his own bible. He wrote in this bible "Grandparents of N. Perry Allen - Jane Turk Allen was born in 1748 and died 1845 age 97 years."He wrote the biography of Robert Allen, Jr., (his grandfather) in the 1890s for which he gave credit to a cousin, Maggie Philpott, which says "Jean or Jane Allen was a daughter of Tom Turk.... Robert Allen and Jean Turk were married in Augusta county Virginia,...
I am sure there a bits of evidence that I am overlooking.I think that all of this is very powerful evidence that Jean (Jane) Turk, daughter of Thomas Turk, born 1748, baptized in 1749, married Robert Allen, Jr., (1741-1788) and they are my ancestors.
Regarding Hugh Allen, I believe that he married Jane Anderson, sister to Margaret Anderson who married James Allen, both of Augusta Co., VA.I have been unable to prove any close family relationship between this Allen family and my Robert Allen, Sr., and Robert Allen, Jr., family in Augusta Co., VA.
