The Hugh Allen Sue is referring to is not the Hugh m. to Jane Anderson and killed at the battle of Point Pleasant in 1774.She is referring to Hugh Allen son of Malcolm Allen of Botetourt and Rockbridge Co. VA.That Malcolm according to Mrs. Emma (Siggins) White, who was a 2xgreat grand daugther, is the son of JAMES ALLEN m. MARGARET ANDERSON, and James, brother to the Hugh of the battle of Point Pleasant.
In her book titled " Genalogical Gleanings of Siggins and other Pennsylvania Families" printed by Tiernan Dart Printing Co. in 1918, and " entered according to Act Of Congress, in the year 1918, by Emma Siggins White, In the office of the Librarian of Congress at Washington".
On pages 461 and 462 of her research, she has the linage of Malcolm (Malcum) Allen and his wife Mary Cunningham, as given to her by the GRANDSON of the said MALCOLM ALLEN in the year 1898, a Mr. Oscar Pyle of Adair Co. Ky, a son of one of Malcolm's daughters.
According to Mr. Oscar Pyle Malcolm and Mary Cunningham Allen had the following children:
JAMES ALLEN m. Adair Co. Ky; Sallie Steps.
JOHN ALLEN, m. Nancy Pile, also spelled Pyle.
WILLIAM ALLEN b. abt 1760-5; m. Elizabeth Tilford
MOSES ALLEN, lived and died in Christian Co. KY.
HUGH ALLEN , m. JANE TURK, (dau.of THOMAS TURK); who after his death she m. WILLIAM CRAIG.
REBECCA ALLEN, m. Nov. 22, 1804 Joseph A. Morrison.
ELIZABETH ALLEN, m. Joseph Miller; lived in Adair Co. KY
MARTHA ALLEN, m. John Pyle; of who the above Oscar Pyle is the son of.
In regards to Mr. Pyle she writes: " OSCAR PYLE, b. 1821; living in 1898 in Columbia, Adair Co., Ky.; seventy-seven years old; one of Columbia's best Citizens who furnished the record of Malcum Allen's family."
So according to Mr. Pyle,(born in 1821) his Mother's brother, HUGH ALLEN m. JANE TURK daughter of THOMAS TURK. And this information came straight from the Nephew, to Mrs. White, in 1898.
The above information given by Mr. Pyle for the spouses and where they had settled, have so far proved to be correct. Except for a couple of them I have not found record of yet.The marriage of Hugh to Jane Turk being one. Also Mr. Pyle's list did not mention a Robert, and Malcolm Allen was suposed to have a son Robert, the one listed in the baptism records for Rev. John Craig. in 1748. So I am inclined to believe that there is a mistake in what was printed, be it an oversite of the publisher who may have left out the name of Robert and inserted Hugh. There is also a possiblity that his name was Robert Hugh Allen and he got called by both.
But I think Mr. Pyle had to have had an Uncle that married Jane Turk, or he would not have known that name, or her fathers names. So that leads me to, If Mr. OSCAR PLYE b. 1821, son of MARTHA ALLEN AND JOHN PYLE, and Martha was the daughter of MALCOLM ALLEN, and one of Martha's brothers married Jane Turk, (be it Robert or Hugh) then the Husband of Jane Turk was the son of Malcolm Allen who was suposedly from the line of James Allen brother of Hugh Allen, both son's of William Allen, who came to Augusta County VA, from Pennsylvania. This is where the biggest conflict in information is, and where Sue and I are trying to figure out the proof of the two different tale's, as we have found some information that leads us to the Allen's in Botetourt in the latter 1700's.
Also another note; There is a marriage record (according to Mr. Ray Isbell ) (I have not seen personally) however he states that it is on microfilm 139 at the VA. State Library, Botetourt Ministers Returns: 20 March 1784 Robert Allen m. Jane Hill, by Edward Crawford.
