I have a great old Allen picture that I can't identify. It is very old but is paper, not tintype, so maybe late 1800s (I'm guessing here). It is a 40 year old Allen husband, with his 31 year old wife and six children. The youngest child is 18 months old, and some of the children are 11, 7, and 5.How do I know this?
The picture was mounted on cardboard and labeled, but then was later trimmed, probably to fit in a frame.Well, they went a little too far.I can see the name Allen and ages on two adults and 4 children. The name of the wife appears to end with -ressa.None of that is in capital letters and the only name I can come up with is Caressa.
Another anotation, written later, says "Brother to M.H. Allen".M.H. Allen, would be Moses Henry Allen born 1849 Wilson County Tennessee, lived in Crittenden KY, but spent most of his life in Jackson County Arkansas. His father was Archibald Allen that we know married three times.I have not been able to find info on two of his brothers, so it is possible that this is one of the brothers. He had a brother named Robert Allen, a half brother named Marcus Allen, and another half brother that never married and a step-brother named James L. Boone. If is possible that they also lived in Mississippi in a timeframe between 1851-1853.The unmarried brother and the Boone brother moved to Missouri and I can trace them.An early correspondance suggests that Robert Allen also went to Jackson County Arkansas, but I have never been able to verify that.Census records appear to show Marcus born in Mississippi, but I know they again went back to Wilson County Tennessee and his father married again before moving to Crittenden KY.
Do you have a missing Robert born 1844 TN or Marcus Allen born 1851 MS, or do you have an Allen married to woman with a name ending in "ressa"?I would love to identify this family.
