One of my family lines on my mother's side was Mock from Fulton/Bedford Co PA.My gggrandmother was Margaret Bell who married Daniel Mock.Apparently Margaret Bell Mock had a sister, Mary who was the second wife of Josiah Allen of Franklin Co.This is the Josiah Allen who was born in 1803, and father of Josiah Allen b. 1838 whom you mention. When Mary Bell Allen died in 1899, her sister Margaret Bell Mock inherited many of her things.Among these were two pages of an Allen family Bible which passed on through to family to my grandmother and then to me.It took me years to figure out that we weren't related to these Allens, but by that time I had done some research on the family.I then found the will of Mary Allen in Fulton County which cleared up the connection.
Mary Allen was married into the Franklin County PA Allen family.
The will says briefly:
Mary Allen of McConnellsburg, Fulton County gives to her sister Margaret Mock and Niece Ann Skelly her house, etc. She also leaves her some cash.
After various assignments to other family members she gives to the daughters of William Allen, Annie and Ellen each $200.She gives to Clara McCune, a granddaughter of Josiah Allen $200.
It looks like there were three possibly four Josiah Allens who are son, father, grandfather and ggrandfather.
The Bible pages are very faded and extremely hard to read, some completely illegible. One pages reads:
Josiah Allen, son of Josian Allen and Susanah his wife, was born
1810 November?Sarah Mariah ??Catharine his wife was born
(This makes no sense)
1813 Mary Bell, daughter of John Bell and Margaret his wife, was born (This is Mary Bell Allen, sister to my Margaret Bell Mock)
1831 June ?Catharine Margaret Allen, daughter of Josiah Allen and Sarah Mariah his wife was born
February ?Susannah Allen, daughter of Josiah Allen and Sarah Mariah his wife, was born
1835april 27, Sarah Mariah Allen, daughter of Josiah Allen and Sarah Mariah his wife was born
1838November 8, Josiah Allen, son of Josiah Allen and Sarah Mariah his wife was born.
(This would be the Josiah Allen you asked about)
The next page is even harder to deciper. This is my best guess.
1797 or 99 ? Susannah Allen, daughter of Josiah Allen and Susannah ws born
July 21 1801 Samuel McAllen, son of Josiah Allen and Susannah his wife was born
July 1803, Josiah Allen, son of Josiah Allen and Susannah his wife was born
April 1806, Martha Allen, daughter of Susannah Allen and Susannah his wife was born

Aug 2 1796 or 94Josiah Allen and Susannah
Sept ? 1820 Joseph Bo?tin and Susannah Allen
Nov 30, 1830Josian Allen and Mar
April 1830 Samuel McAllen and ?
August 5, 1832Joseph Welsh ? and ?
1839David Robertson and ?
As you can see, there are some blanks and some of these dates don't fit with other information.
Josiah Allen b. 1803 had wife Mariah through the 1860 census. According the newspaper below, she died in 1860.By the 1870 census his wife is Mary, who would be Mary Bell.It appears they had no children.
I found this in something called "North Mountain Shadows" by Harry E. Foreman 1952, while researching in PA.It discusses families in Franklin Co PA.
ALLEN.The early Allen family lived on Back Creek on the Loudon Road. They had land near Wilson Run and in the present Edenville section.Robert Allen bought the Moses Coats warrant in 1788.Present Edenville is mainly off this warrant.Robert Allen sold the Coats warrant to Robert Walker in 1792.The oldest Allens are buried at Rocky Spring and the name Josiah is common. There were at least three Josiah Allens.Josiah allen must have purchased the old John Burns land in 1760.This is the year that Burns died.James Gutherie settled the estate.A Josiah Allen was married to a daughter of William McCune. He bought the McCune land.A Josiah Allen ran a hotel on the old Loudon Road at Back Creek.A daughter of Josiah Allen was married to William Ramsey and Ramsey is believed to have run this hotel for some time. The first Josiah Allen served in the Cumberland County Militia in 1781 under Captain Samuel Patton. In 1790, Martha, the widow of Josiah Allen was selling land to Jacob Shertzer. The second Josiah Allen was born in 1772 and died in 1850 as is shown by his marker at Rock Spring.Susannah Allen sold to Fred Mish in 1852.A Josiah llen is on the school roll at the old Loudon School in 1839.This must be the Josiah Allen who owned a farm and operated a hotel on the Lincoln Highway in 1858 between Back Creek and Center School. In 1828 Josiah Allen, Sr. and Josiah Allen, Jr. are members of St. Thomas Presbyterian Church.
"The Franklin Repository" reported in July 25, 1860:On July 20th Sarah Maria Allen, wife of Josiah Allen, of Hamilton township died at age 50"
This would be the first wife of Josiah b. 1803.He then married Mary Bell.
In the book "Revolutionary Soldiers of Franklin Co PA" the bio of Robert McCune says: "Served in 1778 under Captain Patrick Jack. His will was probabed May 1815 in Hamilton Twp and names a son-in-law Josiah Allen, wife Susanna. This conflicts with the information which says Susannah Allen was the daughter of William McCune.
So here is what this family may look like:
Early Josiah Allen, served in Rev. War and was in Franklin County by 1760., with son Josiah b. 9 July 1772 d. 16 Mar 1850 (cemetery records) (1850 Mortality schedule shows him born in 1773)
