Researchers have given Carna Eilands as Hiram Allen's wife, but I'm not so sure this is the correct Hiram Allen. From what I have gathered the first few children of Hiram's were born in SC.The first child that states on census records born in GA was Elizabeth Allen who married Daniel U. Wood.I can't see Hiram coming to I believe it was Baldwin Co. GA and marrying a woman then moving back to SC, although weirder things have happened.
As more records come online, it is getting easier to find some of these folks. From "Georgia Marriages 1699-1944, it lists Westley M. Cooley marrying Cynthia Wafford, 26 May 1833 Jackson County, GA.
Cynthia had two children by Westley, Thomas F. Cooley and Doleska Cooley. We know who Doleska married, her stepbrother, Isom B. Allen.
I found Thomas Cooley on the 1860 Floyd Co. GA census living next door to his mother and stepfather. He is married to Mary age 15 and they have a 1 yr old daughter, C. F.(T?).
Have not found Thomas after 1860, but did find a Mary Cooley age 24 in 1870 Floyd Co. living in the household of a Alfred Shorter age 66, who is quite well off.His wife is Martha B. age 70.Mary had quite a bit of personal estate value herself of $15,000, which back then was a goodly sum of money. She doesn't have a child living with her, so can assume the child has died also? Perhaps Thomas died in the War?
I'm getting more and more sure that Cynthia descends from Absalom Wofford, Sr and Hannah Wofford (dtr. of Absalom Wofford/Sarah Bell Hosey. He was the first Wofford that I can find records of in Jackson Co.Researchers have given them a total of 12 children, I have descendants of three of them. It would seem that one of his sons would have been Cynthia's father.
If either of you are still researching this line, I would like to hear from you.
