Tim, I am not directly researching Ephraim Allen, however, I am keeping my eye on him in the case that he may be related somehow to the David H. Allen that came from NJ to Tompkins Co. that I am researching and cannot find anything on pre-Tompkins Co (1820). In the course of my searching, I have found the following on Ephraim Allen.
Ephraim Allen in Hector
The name Ephraim Allen appears frequently in the records of the Quakers in Shrewsbury, Monmouth Co., NJ. For early records of that family, see "This Old Monmouth of Ours" by Hornor; and the Records of the Shrewsbury (Quaker) Meeting, "Historical and Genealogical Miscellany of New Jersey and New York" by Stillwell. A number of Allen families are listed in the 1790 Freeholders List of Monmouth Co., in Shrewsbury. There was an Ephraim Allen in the militia of Shrewsbury in 1793. No proof that the family following is that family. In the "Marriages of Monmouth Co., NJ, 1795-1843, an Ephraim Allen married Lydia AUMACK on 3 August 1796. (The surname Amock, Amach, etc. appears in Tompkins Co. in 1850.
Ephraim Allen2 (son of Ephraim1), age 76, born NJ, appears in the 1850 census of Hector, pg. 431. Wife, Elsey, age 58. Probably not complete list of children:
2. James d. 1832; m. (Huldah?) Jones, daughter of William.
Note: In the Geneva Gazette 1 May 1816: Ephraim Allen, "A young married man" died in Scipio, Cayuga Co., NY.
James Allen3, son of Ephraim2, died in 1832. His will calls him "son of Ephraim" and mentions grandfather, Ephraim.

David H. Allen, that I am researching, was b. abt. 1778, place unk. He married on 12 Jan 1805, Beuley PRICE, in Shrewsbury, Monmouth Co., NJ ("Marriages of Monmouth Co., NJ, 1795-1843). It is possible that he is the David Allen in the 1810 Scipio, Cayuga Co., NY census, as he had a dau. b. in Cayuga Co. abt. 1810/11.I cannot identify him, though, until the 1820 census of Dryden, Tompkins Co., NY. The children of David and Beuley Allen were:
1. Sarah b. 8 Dec 1808, m. Elijah Hallett
2. Elizabeth, b. 1810/1811, m. Joel Allen
3. John P., b. 1813, m. Julia A. Schutt
4. David, b. 12 Oct 1817, m. Elizabeth Wilmot
5. Mary Jane, b. abt. 1821/1822, m. David Wilmot
6. Edward P., b. 1822/1823, m. Jane C. Richards
7. Benjamin L., b. Jul 1824, m. Elizabeth Van Etten
8. Eleanor A., b. Jan 1827, Alanson Middaugh
9. Lurinda, b. 16 Sep 1830, m. Cornelius D. Personius
David and Bueley Price Allen are buried in Roe Cemetery, Brooktondale, NY.
Hope some of this is helpful.Good luck in your search.I know what a solid brick wall Allens in NJ can be!
