I saw your 1999 posting at the Allen Gen Forum about Lewis Allen and Nancy Burnside.
I think your Lewis is a brother to a Benjamin Allen who married Jane Burnside.
They were last know to have been living in Clinton Co., IL.
According to as DAR application of Bessie Glenn Johnson in 1916, Lewis and Benjamin Allens' father was Benjamin Allen, a Revolutionary War Soldier, 1758-1840, from VA and his wife Elizabeth Davis. She says that Benjamin Allen (Jr.) was born October 18, 1796 and he married Jane Burnside. The other reported children of Benjamin Allen and Elizabeth Davis were Elizabeth who married Mr. Wilton, Lucinda who married Mr. Hall, Malinda who married Mr. Dermmit and Lewis who married a "sister of Jane Burnside."
There is a Benjamin Allen who is a 1/2 brother to my Robert Allen, Jr., from Augusta Co., VA, circa 1763-1845.He was a Revolutionary War soldier too, but he apparently was a different person from the ancestor of your Lewis (and his brother Benjamin).I think my Benjamin Allen died in McMinn Co., TN about 1845.In 1844 he signed a Revolutionary War Pension Application as a resident of McMinn Co., TN in which he describes his Revolutionary War service (and that he entered the service in Staunton, VA (Augusta Co., VA).
I have found a record of an Elizabeth Davis who married Benjamin Allen in Greene Co., TN, on February 11, 1793.I thought this was my Benjamin Allen.According to Bessie Glenn Johnson's DAR Application this was your Benjamin Allen.I don't know if Bessie Glenn Johnson had documentary proof of her claim or whether she simply found the same marriage record that I did and just assumed this was probably her Benjamin Allen.
I am looking for information that would shed light on which Benjamin Allen married Elizabeth Davis?
