I'm another Allen who can't trace her Allens. My gg grandfather, Wm. Pirtle Allen supposedly stowed away on a wagon train coming out of Lawrence Co., TN., led by a Capt. Newton adison Carrel of that county.this was abt. 1872. My gg grand father, Wm. Pirtle Allen, was only abt 13 when he stowed away on the wagon train which was camped over night near his home in W. Tenn.(I think MAYBE Hardeman Co., TN) He was 13, and yet none of his children ever knew who his parents, siblings were. He lied to everyone about where he was from. Two different sources (2 separate tombstones for him) say he was from Love Co., Tn., or Faith Co., Tn. There was never any county by either name. I don't know if he was an alcholic..but, his sons were known for their drinking in Ellis /Dallas Co., TX. I'm trying to find out who his parents in TN were. His mother may have been a Pirtle. I never would have narrowed down where in Tn (East) he might have come from if I had not done some reserch on Capt. Carrell who brought him to Tx. They lived near each other in the 1880 Census of Dallas Co, TX. It was family tradition that he lived with Capt. Carrell for a while after they arrived in Tx. Both families lived in Ellis Co(Ovilla twp) and Desota, Dallas Co., TX.
