Wish I had big news to add - alas I don't - just some observations about my own TN family that migrated to Ellis Co, (Ovilla) TX.
Following the 1880 and before 1888 - my HAYES ancestors migrated from Lewis County TN to the Waxahaxhie/Midlothian (Ovilla) area, as did some relation from Wayne County, TN. I don't know how they came for sure but I have been lead to believe they came by train.Whatever the case there seems to have been a major migration out of the Wayne/Lewis Co TN area (and other TN counties?) during the timeframe.Wayne and Lewis Counties border Lawrence County.
My great great grandmother Hayes was an Allen according to the death certificates of some of her children. Although born in AL, she lived in Wayne Co. (1850-60) and Lewis Co (1870-80) TN.I will look at my Allen names to see if I see anything. I will also check with another Allen researcher, who also has a "runaway" story in her past and if I come up anything I will post back - or - if you have questions, feel free to contact me directly.
One last observation, I have found that I frequently mispronounce names of places in Tennessee.I said Maury (like Povich) and was corrected by a resident to MURRAY. I pronounced Lutts as Lutz and was corrected to LOOTS; I found a Hayes from Blount County, but his military record read BLUNT.Could Faith (Fate) County have been Fayette County? (next County west of Hardeman).Or considering that he was somewhat secretive about his origins, could his reference to LOVE and FAITH Counties have been his own little joke?
