My husband's grandfather was Ura Austin Allen whose parents "died young" according to Ura's wife, Gertrude Law Allen. She remembered very little about her husband's family, except that he was raised by relatives named Shoemaker. One of Isaac's daughters, Anna Elizabeth, married W. P. Shoemaker.
Another of his daughters, Sarah F. Allen, married Jacob Stites. The 1880 Census for Kansas lists Ura A. Allen as a nephew living with the Jacob D. Stites family. This was in Marmaton Township, Bourbon Co.,KS.
Anna and Sarah were sisters, both daughters of Isaac, both aunts of Ura.So we believe Isaac was Ura's grandfather.
Isaac had only 4 sons that could have been Ura's father: James W. and Nathan (both born in Tenn.) and Thomas J. and Albert H. both born in KY.The 1880 Census says Ura's father was bron in KY, and we have a list of Thomas' children, so Albert may be his father.(A fifth son, Charles, was born in Kansas abt 1862, too young to be Ura's father.)
In the 1875 Kansas Territorial Census U. Allen is living with the M. Tanner (female) family. This may be Ura's grandmother Mary Tanner. He was listed as 1 year old.
All of these dates suggest that Ura was born in 1873.We have his birth date as 16 Dec 1873.I also have his death certificate with his birth date on it.All of this has convinced us that we are related to Isaac and Polly.
Isaac and Polly's children: 1.James W. Allen b. about 1838 TN 2.Nathan Allen b. about 1841 TN 3.Thomas Jefferson Allen b. 26 Mar 1844, Louisville, Jefferson Co., KY.M. Margaret J. Kirk on 11 Sep 1864 4.Anna Elizabeth Allen b. 1845 KY d. 1928 m. Shoemaker 5.Albert H. Allen b. 1846/1847, KY m. Melissa A. Tanner on 18 Nov 1869 in Cherokee Co., KS 6.Nancy I. Allen b 1849 KKY, d. 1862 7.Sarah F. Allen b. 1850/51 KY m. Jacob Stites 20 sep 1870 8.Laura E. Allen b. abt 1853 KY 9.Theodosia E. Allen b. abt 1857 KY 10. Mary J. Allen b. 1859 KS 11. Eliza R. Allen b. 1859 KS d. 1864 (before Oct) 12. Charles R. Allenb. 1862
Mary W. (Polly) Sims (or Symns) obit says she leaves 2 sons, T.J. Allen of this city and one in Hesperus, Colorado, 2 dau., Mrs. Shoemaker of Kansas City and the other in the Klondike regions. She lived at the corner of 6th and Lowman in Ft. Scott.
Isaac's family moved from Tennessee to Kentucky around 1841 to 1844 and from Kentucky to Kansas 1857-1859.
My husband's grandmother (also Ura's wife) told us that Ura had an older brother Will (she thinks he was 2 years older) who "died young".
I have other miscellaneous information on Isaac, but have been unable to connect him to Tennessee relatives.I would appreciate a response from you if you have more information.
