I'm hoping someone(s) out there can help with this mystery:
My maternal great-grandmother was Arabelle Allen.According to what little information I've been able to gather, mainly Census, she was born around 1838.She married Marcus Lafayette Sanders and moved with him to Arkansas..The 1870 & 1880 Census indicate that she was born in Virginia, with the added bonus on the 1880 Census that her father was born in Maryland.I believe that Arabelle passed away around 1890 in Arkansas, so she no longer appears in Census data.
However, Arabelle's youngest child was my grandmother, May.May first appears on the 1900 Census, where it indicates that her mother, Arabelle, was born in Virginia. Then, May next appears on the 1920 Census and indicates that her mother was born in Georgia! On the 1930 Census, West Virginia.
My grandmother passed away before I was born, but the story I get from my older cousins was that Arabelle was from Georgia and somehow a plantation is involved in her story, but that is all they can tell me.
So, in summary, perhaps I'm asking if an Arabelle (or similar name) appears in anyone's Allen research that may appear to be my great-grandmother.I'd appreciate any leads that can be found.
