It is important to state here that the info on Samuel serving in 1760 ( French Indian War period) is in the Henry County VA Court records for the same time period that Samuel was there and married Sarah Prator. Also if you check the Russell County Court records for the time period he was supposed to be there you will find where he was exempted from paying taxes " on account of his old age and bodily infirmities" This was abt 1796/97. So if he was born in 1762 I don't think they would have exempted him from paying taxes for being too old if he was only in his 30's.You can also look at the Russell County personal property tax list from 1795 on and for the first couple of years he pays for 1 tithable.. then he goes a couple of years and pay's for 0 tithables ( this following the court order.. BUT then he shows up with 2 tithables.. so I assume he must have had a couple of son's old enough to have to pay for living with him then.
This all brings up the question.. If Samuel Allen married Sarah Prator in 1783 in Henry Co. VA... and he was born abt 1740 or earlier ( to have been a Capt. in 1760 I figure he was at least 20 yrs old).. then he was abt 43 yrs old when they married. So what do you think the chances are that he was married before her??Pretty good I would say.
PS.. 3 people from my Allen line have taken the DNA test, and I encourge other Allen from this pile in SW VA and KY to do the same.It may be the only way we can ever sort them all out.The Y DNA test for the gene that is only passed from Father to son so participants would have to be Male with the surname Allen. For more information go to FAmily Tree DNA project Allen/Allan surname.
