Winnie:Are you familiar with James, Robert and Stokes Allen on the 1800 Abbevillle Dist., SC US census?
I believe a daughter, Sarah "Sallie" of James or Robert Allen married David McMahan (my direct ancestors).David is found on the Rutherford Co., TN census in 1820.Sallie & David's eldest son James Allen McMahen b c1800 SC md 10 Aug 1822 in Rutherford Co., TN to Mary Coleman.By about 1824 David and his children are in Lauderdale Co., AL, where David died before 29 March 1827 when his estate was administered.
In 1830, James A. McMahan is on the U. S. Census in Hardeman Co., TN, p 369A:
Males Under 5 = 1 5-10 = 1 20 - 30 = 1
Females Under 5 = 1 20 - 30 = 2
Living near him are two brothers and their widowed mother Sarah: USC 1830, Hardeman Co, TN: Line 14:Hugh B. McMahan 2 males -5; m 20-30; fem 15-20; fem 20-30 Line 15:Sarah McMahan m 10-15; fem 40-50 [Son age 10-15 could be Thos Jeff, born c1812 Line 16:Robert B. McMahan 2 m -10; m 20-30; fem 20-30
