ROY FORREST ALLEN ROY was born January 13, 1926 in Livingston, Montana, to parents ROY and ELSIE ALLEN. His early years were spent in Helena (MT) and he graduated from Great Falls High School (MT). In January, 1944, he enlisted in the Navy and was enrolled in the B-12 program at Carroll College where he studied under Bernard Tapel, who had a doctorate in mathematics and later became the Bishop in Spokane. ROY's further education while in the Navy included studying at Wrights Jr. College in Chicago and the University of Washington. After his service ended he enrolled in Gonzaga University where he graduated with degrees in Mathematics and Physics.
He was employed by Boeing. First he wrote computer programs evaluating KC 135 airplanes and B-52 airplanes. Later he was involved with aerospace and technical staff preparing major proposal materials for new business.
He was married to DOROTHY JEAN McKENZIE for 56 years. ROY served Rainier Beach Presbyterian Church for many years as an ordained elder and treasurer. He and DOROTHY organized a support group for Friends of Youth which continues after 50 years. His keen intellect, generosity, hard work, and commitment to those he loved made a huge impact on those who knew him.
ROY is survived by his wife, DOROTHY; daughter KATHLEEN (BRUCE) NORQUIST; sons GLENN (JUDY) ALLEN and DON (KATHY) ALLEN, nine grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. ROY was surrounded by his beloved family members when he went to be with His Lord on Wednesday, May 30, 2007.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 6, 2007 at 3 p.m. at Rainier Beach Presbyterian Church, 9656 Waters Avenue South, Seattle 98118. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Rainier Beach Presbyterian Church or the Friends of Youth.
