Did your grandfather Mr. Allen who died in 1949 Name one of his son's after himself?
You said they had 5 children, was their a son Sydney, Jr.???
My Birth father was adopted by SYDNEY ALLEN,David. Mom's memory at 73 is a little shakey..she remembers that SYDNEY Allen, Jr. did not have family in WA. He was a stocky man who suffered with diabetes,he had a calm tone about him, never remembers him ever raising his voice. she doesn't remember his wife's name, but says she was a smaller woman very bubbley almost like a southern belle type, always very well mannered.
She remembered David Allen telling her that his father was very strict. She can't remember what the Allen's did for a living, but said they were comfortable...and believed that perhaps an inheritance made them comfortable. They apparently purchased for Mom many things to help her with no thought of cost when I was an infant..which surprised Mom, made her a little uncomfortable too. She felt that the Allen's didn't have much local family, as she never met any of them.
I did meet a Mr. & Mrs. Sydney Allen at my grandmother's home during a funeral reception for a member of my family.
They were older, I was very young under 8 years old.... and this Mr. & Mrs. Sydney Allen were commenting on "how much I looked like my father?"
I thought that was really laughable being so young, because my mother remarried a man from Massachussetts and he was portugese..a really good man by the way...good father to me.
So..you can imagine how humorous I thought this was being so young, my dad being a short portugese man..and I look at him?
I am very fair, blonde hair, freckles..green eyes-my mother's...very happy & blessed woman presently. My mother introduced them to me, as "special people that would like to meet me."Nothing more than that.
This David Allen, in 1955 the times were party days, and he was living the times. Mom was 21 years old, and he was her first love, and thus me..which I am grateful for as I am living a wonderful life. Mom did not want contact as she wasn't sure what kind of people I would be exposed too...so she was very protective. Would only receive help from her family, upon which her side has many...5 aunts spoiled me beyond belief! They also took me to their own seperate churches..for a while I didn't know what faith I was...laughing! it was like a competition for them, we laugh about it to this day. I was presbyterian, episcopalian, lutheran, and baptist...do I ever know the bible!
It wasn't until I was 15 that I learned that I was conceived from another man named David Allen.I wasn't angry or shocked..."it just...kind of all made sense!"
I've never pursued it...because my family is a real blessing and we have a lot of fun together, we vacation together, shop together, one of those really close families. So I bear no ill will against this David Allen, why..should I? I am alive and a healthy strong happy beautiful woman. Feel he's the one that missed out..on knowing me!
Oh dear, this is long..I apologize, guess my heart and thanksgiving took over.
So the question is: Did one of the 5 children of your grandfather have a son, Sydney, JR.????
I'll go search WA. STATE records for the adoption of this David Allen. Today, this David Allen son of Sydney Allen, "JR"???would be about 73-77 or so.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family! Sorry for the long write! Kathleen Marie Cook
my mother's maiden name was : Jacquilene GILMORE not Hill.
