I am a descendant of Ananias Allen, born 15 Jun 1756, in Orange County, North Carolina. This Ananias married Elizabeth Ann Laxton, daughter of Thomas Laxton and Sarah Grayson. He was the first child of Gislem Gershom Allen and Patience Graham. This Ananias Allen is mentioned in the document posted on the web entitled “The Allen Family of Drasco, Arkansas.”This Ananias Allen is also a revolutionary war veteran.
I’ve tried to follow the Allen family back to the Anthony Allen b 1577 in Dorchestshire, England;and then his son Ephriam John Allen b. 1602 also in Dorchestershire and then to his son John Ananias Allen b. 1623 in Somerset NJ as described in the Drasco, Arkansas Document but when I get to the Allens in the Dutch Reformed Church it seems that John Allen may be John Allourgen who married Francynte Alberti(b. 3 May 1654). Allourgen is said to have been a Dutch name that was anglicized to Allen.
For now, I have listed this John Allen/Allourgen, husband of Francynte Alberti, as the ancestor of my Ananias Allen because he is the only John Allen that I’ve found any type supporting documentation for—Dutch Reformed Church Records.
I am very interested in any information that would sway me back to the early Allens described in the Dracos, Arkansas Family document. If “Allen” is really the anglicized version of Allourgen then they probably aren’t from Dorchestshire.
There is one other version of the origin of the Ananias Allen (husband of Elizabeth Laxton) family that seems even less likely—that is the version that claims first Allen in America was a son of the Earl of Somerset who was cheated out of his inheritance.Seems like this version was a spin off related somehow to Allen Family ties to Somerset, New Jersey - not Somerset UK
The following is something about the other “John Allen/Allourgen that I copied randomly from the Alberti Family Forum a few minutes ago.

I also find I come from this line. My link is Francynte b. 3 May 1654 m. John Allen. I have 3 children for them. Ananias b. abt 1675 N.Y. d. Somerset Co. N.J; Jan b. 11 Nov 1675 N.Y, and Judith b. 24 Oct 1677 N.Y. I've been unable to find anything about them in Flatlands, N.Y. Ananias m. 1694 Sommerst Co. N.J. Can't say if the family had moved there or just him. If anyone has info on them, I would apprecated hearing from you. I have nothing move on this family, other than there son Ananis's line. Francyn would have only been around a yr. old when her parents were killed in the Indian Raid in 1655. Info I have found says the "Dutch authorites took charge of the 6 living kids, appointed a guardian, made favorable lease of th plantation, Jan & William sold it in 1695." Has any one ever found who there gaurdian was? From my info she was the 2nd dau by that name, the 1st being b. 2 Apr 1851 d. 1653. Will apprecate any help I can get. firstname.lastname@example.org
