I am searching for information about the parents of Lorenzo Allen; b. 1825 in New York; m. Harriette ELLIOTT ca 1849 likely in Springfield Twp., Bradford Co., Pennsylvania; d. 1908 in Springfield Township. Lorenzo is buried in Checkerville Cem., South Creek Twp., Bradford Co., Pennsylvania.
Harriette ELLIOTT was the daughter of Otis Elliott and Hannah BABB. Harriette was born 1830 in New York; d. 1919 in Springfield Twp., Bradford Co., Pennsylvania. Harriette is buried near husband Lorenzo.
The Pennsylvania death certificate for Lorenzo Allen states he was born in Binghamton, New York. The death certificate identifies his parents as John Allen and Mary COOPER, both were reportedly born in Binghamton, New York. The death certificate informant was the wife of Lorenzo, Harriette ELLIOTT Allen.
Lorenzo and Harriette ELLIOTT Allen had only two known children. They had son Allison (1853-1929) and daughter Evaline (1857-1943). Allison is buried in Big Pond Cemetery and Evaline is buried in Checkerville Cemetery, both cemeteries are in Springfield Township.
A book authored by Dr. Donald J. Berry, titled “Descendants of John Casse (-1675) of Hampton, NH; Descendants of Joseph Berry (-1757),” published ca 1998 states the unnamed father of Lorenzo Allen married an unnamed daughter of Ephraim and Polly CLEVELAND Berry, sometime before the birth of Lorenzo in 1825.
So, a candidate for the father of Lorenzo Allen is John Allen who was located in Binghamton, New York ca 1825.
A candidate for the mother of Lorenzo Allen is Mary COOPER who was located in Binghamton, New York ca 1825.
Another candidate for the mother of Lorenzo Allen is (first name unknown) BERRY, daughter of Ephraim and Polly CLEVELAND Berry. This Berry family resided in Danby, Tompkins Co., New York between 1815 and 1826. In the Ephraim Berry household of 1820 were two females aged 10-15 years. In the Ephraim Berry household of 1825 there was only one unmarried female aged 16-45. So, it appears that one female of the Berry household departed between 1820 and 1825. That Berry female may have married John Allen.
The sons of Ephraim Berry came to the area of Springfield Township ca 1825 and established the village of Berrytown. Lorenzo Allen migrated to Berrytown sometime prior to the census of 1850.
1850 census for Springfield Twp., Bradford Co., Pennsylvania lists: Allen Lorenzo 25 M 500 Farmer NY Harriet 20 F NY
