I found a record that seems to prove that William Brown married the Elizabeth Allen who was a daughter of Valentine Allen and Mary Page.In addition, the 1705 will of this William Brown shows that he was married to a Mary at that time (versus an Elizabeth). In that will, however, William Brown refers to his wife Mary as the "mother-in-law" of his daughter Sarah.I believe that was the term that was used in those days for "step-mother."I do not know if this second wife named Mary was also an Allen, and if she was, if she was the sister of Elizabeth Allen.Anyway, the record that I found seems to support the belief that Francis Brown was married to a DIFFERENT Elizabeth Allen (though these two women were supposedly related to one another).
Here is the referenced record:
Nov. 9, 1689-Mary Allen to her eldest daughter, Elizabeth Brown, wife of WILLIAM Brown, 451 acres of land being a part of a dividend of land taken up by Mary Allen's father, Thomas Page.
There is no proof, however, that William Brown and Francis Brown were related, though some suspect that this William Brown MIGHT have been a brother of the father of the above Francis Brown. This father was also named Francis Brown, and he was also married to an Elizabeth (though most suspect that she was Elizabeth Cole). The father named Francis died around 1691/1692 in Essex (and his will mentioned no son named William Brown) and the son named Francis died around 1708/1709 in Essex (and his will mentioned no son named William Brown either).
