I'm researching a John Allen who received a 1,000 acre VA land grant June 25, 1776 on Clear Creek, Fincastle / Kentucky County. The grant says John is the heir of Hugh Allen who died in the war between Great Britain and France and received the grant for military service. That war was also known as the French & Indian War and ended in 1763.
I believe this is the same John Allen listed on some lists of Ft. Boonesborough settlers. He appears to be the first Allen settler in KY. This Clear Creek was a branch of the KY River putting it close to the fort.
The above Hugh Allen is not the Hugh Allen killed at the Battle of Point Pleasant in 1774. To make things confusing Point Pleasant Hugh had a son John Allen who moved to KY in 1783 with his brothers Hugh and William Allen. These brothers were too young to have acquired any land in 1783 let alone 1776.
The only Allen I have found who died in the French & Indian War was a John Allen in 1755. He was a brother of the Hugh Allen who was killed at Point Pleasant.
I would appreciate any leads on 1776 John Allen or his father Hugh who died in the French & Indian War 1754-1763.
