Hi Ruby, I have done a little checking and have some info that MIGHT help' you - this is not my Allen family, but I had an Aunt who lived near Murphy,NC and Cherokee County, NC.
site: Cherokee Clunty, NC Delayed Births:
child:Charlie P. Allen b. 27 Oct 1903
father:Dock Allen mother:Mary Farmer
child:Finetta Allenb. 23 Dec 1891
father:Dock Allen mother: Mary Farmer
Finetta Allen married Walter Graham she died Jan 14, 1992 at age 101 and is buried in Violet Baptist Cemetery (I assume in WNC someplace)
I did see some references to the name Dockery and Dock as a nickname. Could it be that the Allen's married into the Dockery family or had them as ancestors and that is why Dock Allen was named Doctor?
The 1880 US Census shows:
Dock Allen age 14 b. 1866 NCworks on farm Head of household:Warren Allen spouse: Clarinda location:Shoal Creek, Cherokee, NC
I did find that David L. Warren Allen b. @ 1829 is buried in the Allen Cemetery, Cherokee County, NC he was born in Town County, GA. I believe the "L" means Lemuel from some accounts.
Clarinda's maiden name is Roers.
David Warren Allen married a second spouse: Iola Kimsey (full name: Amy Iola Kimsey) and had daughter Helen who died age 3
Perhaps some info about David Warren Allen will come forth and lead to more info on Dock Allen , his son "Doctor" another variation.
Clarinda Rogers and David Warren Allen are shown living in Cherokee Co in 1860, 1870 and 1880 Census records.
David Warren Allen left no will. Allen Cemetery in the Shoal Creek area below Candy Mountain, Cherokee county, NCHe was a farmer and a Justice of the Peace.
in 1850 He lived in Polk County, TN in 1860 he lived in Shoal Creek - P. O. known as Laurel Valley in 1870 the Post Office was Murphy, NC
Thus I believe the family lived not far from Murphy, as roads were terrible in the 1870's and 1880's and some still are in WNC !
As a Justice of the Peace there must be more records for David Warren Allen and may include information about his son Dock or Doctor Allen.
I hope this helps in some way - or you may already have all this information. Nevertheless, it pays to keep it in mind I think - Maybe Ancestry.com has info on Finetta Allen, who is probably his daughter.
