Requesting assistance in determining which William ALLEN died in Wake Co NC? His last will is dated 29 Oct 1774 and he died soon thereafter. Then there is a William Allen whose estate was probated in 1767 in a nearby NC county.
Research shows one William Allen who died in NC was born in MD to a Thomas Allen and the other William Allen was born 1725 New Kent Co VA died in NC and was son of Robt Allen and Anne Reynolds. Which one died in Wake Co NC?
Wm who died in Wake Co NC cira 1774 has a Coleman Allen named as a son in his Last Will. This Coleman Allen is possibly my ancestor....assuming it is true now that Young Allen (who m Martha Coleman) did NOT have a Coleman Allen listed in his last will (as we were previously led to believe).
I have not seen copies of any of these documents but I am relying on the research of Melba Goff Allen and Norma Miller Carter. Ms Carter, in the revision of her book, "Allens in the Southern States" shows the WILLIAM ALLEN whose last will included a son Coleman, is William Allen born in Maryland to Thomas Allen - NOT the William Allen born in New Kent VA son of Robert Allen and Anne Reynolds.
While Melba Goff Allen shows the other William (son of Anne and Robt) to be the one who died in Wake and had Coleman in his last will.
By the way, I am not certain that this Coleman is the same person commonly referred to as Coleman Anderson Allen (my ancestor) who married Sarah Tilley. All the document copies (Wills and deeds) I have obtained from Patrick Co Courthouse refer to him simply as Anderson Allen. A deed made in Stokes Co NC by the "heirs of Henry Tilley", Anderson's father-in-law, spelled Anderson's name two ways in the same document!--once as C.A. ALLEN and once as Anderson N Allen --so there is question in my mind. Also there were several of that time period in NC named Coleman Allen and there was also at least one Anderson N Allen --so any help to clarify would be greatly appreciated!
