OhioGal, While most of the personal info you stated is not in the booklet, like Ethan's personality traits, it is readily available from other sources.
The genealogy info in the booklet contains all of Ethan's descendants, as well as the descendants of his brothers and sisters. At least, as far as was known by the author as of 1990, when he died.He certanly spent years researching the Allen family, and he wasn't even related. He had no reason to include or exclude anyone; he just stated the facts.
We are all aware of how much the explosive growth of the internet has contributed to long-forgotten or obscure records coming to light, which has certainly helped clarify - or confuse, as the case may be! - the available information.I know I have seen postings in various online forums, this one included, from persons disputing the 'accepted' facts. There may very well be those who can prove their descent from this family about whom the author had no idea.I make no judgements about that one way or the other.I'm one of those people who has had it handed down in the family that we are related to Ethan somehow, but no one ever knew exactly how.I have been unable to prove or disprove that family tale -- the Allen line is my proverbial brick wall.In searching for info, I purchased the booklet and wanted to pass on to others the knowledge of its existence so that they, too, may take the opportunity to acquire it.In doing so, they not only help their own research, but help preserve some of our nation's history, whether or not they find they are connected to the Allen family. If the booklet were not part of the fundraising to help maintain the home of Ethan Allen, I might consider transcribing it and posting it online, but that wouldn't be ethical in the first place, nor would it help the Ethan Allen Homestead Trust, so I won't be the one to do that.Citing the source when giving bits of information out of it are one thing, but posting the whole of the information contained within it is another!
The booklet does not address all of the numerous cousins that Ethan Allen had -- and they were quite numerous. This extended family enjoyed health in a time when much of the nation's residents did not.It was quite unusual that all of Ethan's brothers and sisters lived to maturity, and that fact holds mostly true for his various aunts and uncles, too, from what I've read.So to those of you who do purchase the booklet and don't find your connection to Ethan or one of his siblings (like me), don't give up.Explore the other branches of the family and maybe you'll find that's where you connect. That is what I am currently working on!
