Hello Rodd (am I to gather your name is Rodd Jones??).Thanks for your informative response!I'm55 and been working on the family history since I was 14, and I've never acquired so much info as what I've gotten the last few days. But 40 years of research has made me a skeptical old curmudgeon, so I hope you'll work with me to ensure we have a connection here.I'll have to say it all looks promsing at this point.
Let me take things point-by-point so that I don't become befuddled:
1)Please pull up the 1850 Randolph County, NC census as you follow all this along.FamilySearch.org is a great one to go to for it....run by the Mormons and very easy & thorough.Type in "John Sarah Allen" on the form.
I see where your g-grandmother is Margaret Allen.Imagine my disappointment when I did not see her listed as a child of John & Sarah. However I found a very promising Margaret Cox buried in John & Sarah's cemetery whose birth date was 11-19-1829 (died 9-16-1902). This could mean that, at age 20 (almost 21), she was already out of John & Sarah's home at the time of the 1850 census (taken 8-26-1850).This deduction seems to be confirmed by Margaret's wedding date you gave me: 12-8-1846....which would mean she was married...so probably out of John & Sarah's house...at age 17...not so unusual back then.
2)Can I ask how you came up with John & Sarah's wedding date?
3)How did you find out their middle names and maiden name?
4) How did you discover John Allen's parents' names?
5) Another excellent site to explore (maybe you already know about it) is "Randolph County North Carolina Cemeteries Census" (put that in Google search engine).Go to Union Grove Christian Church graveyard (3985 Old Hwy. 13, near Asheboro), or however you want to navigate it.You'll find a whole slew of Allens and Coxes.I know the Allens are very likely mine/yours...looks like the Coxes could be yours. To add to the experience, go to Google Earth and zero down on the cemetery.(I've lived long enough to see this kind of technology!)
*****If your answers fit my questions, it sounds like we'll have a whole lot more to talk about!!!*****
