I've gotten some additonal information on my search for Charles O Allen or Orren C Allen from Oakfield NY which leaves me to believe his name may have been Orlo C Allen who was born in 1824. The name Orlo comes from a city directory from Detroit (where his widow was living) and a civil war registration from Oakfield that lists his name as Orlo...not Orren, and all other data list his birthdate 1824. In other census and directory data he has gone by Charles O Allen. In an 1850 Norfolk St. Lawrence census there is a Charles Allen listed with a birthdate of 1820. This and all other census and an Oakfield business directory (1869-1870)along with a civil war registration from Oakfield list him as a shoemaker. The census data also always listed a wife Elizabeth and sister Maria ( or sometimes Ellen)and after 1850 a son Eugene (great great grandfather)
I've been able to unearth an Orlo Allen born in 1824 to a John Allen and Marian Hurd from Vt. Tracing this family back they are from the Abraham Alling line of Marblehead MA / Oyster Bay line. I had taken a 67 marker dna test with familytreedna and match no one in the entire Allen project database. Leads me to think that if I am from this Orlo who was from Abraham Alling, there will be few to no matches in that database as it's populated with samples from the "true" Allen patriarchs. Most Allings know where they come from and no need for a dna test.
Questions...have any male Allings or Alling "Allens" reading this ever taken a dna test and if so could we possibly compare results?
Secondly are there any descendants from Abraham Alling of Oyster Bay who would have any information on his John Allen & Marian Hurd line?
