Hi Bob, I have found on Ancestry.com:
1830 US Census:
Robert BLAKE
Ferrisburg, Addison, vT
Free white - males - age 20-29one (1)
Free white - females - ages 20-19one (1)
This might be the BLAKE that Ruby married.I couldn't find out
any more information about him. Perhaps you can "dig" something up.
Also there were people named Blakesly in Manchester township
and Blakeley in Rupert as well as Balkesley in Shaftsbury.
These were in the 1790 US Census on USGENWEB for VT
So the name might originally have been "more than" just Blake.
I did not find any reference to BLACK - so I do think BLAKE is the
correct person she married.
Other information:
worldconnect:
Ruby Blakesleyb. 15 Dec 1803in Manchester, Bennington, VT
(surely a close date to when you Ruby was born)
her father:Ezra Blakesley b. 1750 VT
in the 1800 US Census he lived in Manchester, Bennington, VT
OnAncestry.com:
mention of Ezra Blakesley:
HISTORY OF BENNINGTON, VT
CHAPTER XXI - History of Town of Manchester p. 352
There was also listed in the 1830 US Census:
Abijah BLAKE - New Haven, Addison, VT
two white person ages 20-49 - so that might be another person to
investigate.
It is interesting to me that the name Ruby is not common, nor was it
carried down through the Allen family lines.
Apparently Ruby Kellogg and Mr. BLAKE were married @ 1825 in
Ferrisburg, Addison, VT
So you would have to find Abijah or Robert BLAKE alive during that
year or a year or two before or after.
I won't have any more time this next week to help with research -
I do hope you find some connections and facts or at least what appear
to be facts for your ancestors.
