In memory of MARTHA ALLEN, who departed this life March the 21st, 1815, in the 72d year of her age.
JOHN ALLEN, died Jan. the 18th, 1859, in the 84th year of his age
ANN, wife of JOHN ALLEN, died Octo. 19th, 1842, aged 65 years
JOSIAH ALLEN, died July the 14th, 1883, in the 75th year of his age
PHEBA J. M., daughter of JOSIAH and SUSANNAH ALLEN, died Sept. 26th, 1879, in the 26th year of her age. “Thou art gone, but not forgotten.”
JOHN GRAHAM, son of JOSIAH and SUSANNAH ALLEN, died the 16th of December, 1875, aged 20 years
ADA ETHA, daughter of JOSIAH and SUSANNAH ALLEN, died June 4th, 1881, in the 24th year of her age.
JOHNNIE, son of W. H. and E. M. ALLEN, died Sept. the 10th, 1881, aged 1 year and 4 months.
LEMUEL H., son of WM. H. and E. M. ALLEN, born June the 20th, 1882, died June the 6th, 1891.

MRS. SUSANNAH ALLEN of Cross Creek Township was born Nov. 21, 1823, a daughter of the late JOHN HARPER, of Cecil Township, Washington, Pa.On Nov. 19, 1850, she was united in marriage with JOSIAH ALLEN, son of JOHN ALLEN.
JOHN ALLEN was born in Chambersburg, Pa., and, coming to Washington County about the year 1800, settled on the farm now occupied by his descendants.He brought his bride (MISS ANNA TWEED).To JOHN and ANNA ALLEN were born MARTHA, JOHN, JOSIAH, NANCY, SAMUEL and WILLIAM, all now deceased.
JOSIAH ALLEN was born Nov.15, 1808, on the home farm, in the house where his widow is now living.After his marriage to SUSANNAH HARPER they settled on the old farm, where children were born to them as follows:
1.WILLIAM HARPER, born Aug. 24,1851, married to EMMA ANDERSON, daughter of H. C. ANDERSON, of Cross Creek Township (They have four children, namely: JOHN ELLSWORTH, LEMUEL HARPER, EMMA M. (deceased in infancy) and WILLIAM EARL).
2. ANNA MARTHA, born Nov. 30, 1852
3. PHOEBE JANE, born March 14, 1854
4. JOHN GRAHAM, born July 11, 1855
5. ADA ETHELINDA, born May 26, 1857
6. ELLA AGNES, born March 24, 1859
7. FRANCINIA ELIZABETH (wife of JOSEPH MARQUIS), born Jan. 23, 1861
8. JAMES CRAIG, born Oct.14, 1862
9.JOSIAH HARVEY, born Dec. 19, 1865.
Of this family, PHOEBE JANE, JOHN GRAHAM and ADA ETHELINDA are deceased.MR. ALLEN was a staunch Democrat.He was a consistent member and liberal supporter of the Presbyterian Church of Cross Creek village. He commanded the respect and admiration of all who knew him, being one of the most useful, honorable and public-spirited men of the community.
JOSIAH ALLEN died July 14,1883.At the time of his death he owned 137 acres of land, which was left to his widow and children.
