I found an original land grant of James Allen that might interest you, by searching for the date in the VA Land Office SEARCH, then looking through the book at pages recorded near the same date.It is difficult at first to read the old script, but with patience you can make it out. Here is the link to the search window: http://lva1.hosted.exlibrisgroup.com/F/?func=file&file_name=find-b-clas30&local_base=CLAS30http://lva1.hosted.exlibrisgroup.com/F/?func=file&file_name=find-b-clas30&local_base=CLAS30
The follow-on patent for James Allen als. Richard Allen recorded 9 June 1653 describes the same land as 300 acres on the Wiccocomico River, northerly upon the Maine Woods in Northumberland VA formerly granted 20 June 1651.Scan 002_0453.tiff from Patent Book No.3, 1652-1655, page 25 at the very top.
It seems that James als Richard Allen is the elder, and that he transports another James Allin into the colonies, and this seems to be the original granting of land on the Northern Neck of Northumberland Co, VA.Perhaps the others might have family relationships. Some of the surrounding land documents list names I am familiar with in our family research connected to the Keene family who were transports from Kent Island MD to Cherry Point, Northumberland VA around the same time frame 1645, with grant belatedly filed 1653.
