Scott Allen:If your ancestor John Allen was born in 1764, he may be an ancestor of my William Allen, born about 1822. William's family had a farm in Goleen, Cork County, so perhaps a connection could be made if your John Allen was also from Goleen. William's name is in the Ballydehob Protestant Church records, and he taught in a school there that is still standing (I have a photo). And, my brother (Thomas Allen Greig) reports that there are several tombstones on the church grounds bearing the Allen name. There must have been relatively few Protestant Allens in Cork Co. since their line wouldn't have gone back beyond the English occupation.
