I also have an ancestor named Asahel Allen from Vermont that I am trying to locate.I know they are not the same person, because my ancestor was born about 1800.However, men tended to name their sons after their brothers and fathers, so I thought your ancestor might be a nephew to my Asabel.Do you have the names of any of Waldo Allen's brothers or cousins?Asabel Allen is the furthest I have been able to go back on this line. This is what I know about Asabel Allen. He married Catherine Baldridge in their native state of Vermont.Shortly after their marriage, they moved to St. Lawrence Co., NY.I don't know when he was born, but considering that his 4 children were born 1831-1839, I would guess he was born between 1795 and 1805.His children were: Matilda Allen, b. 1831; Ethan P. Allen, 1834-1864; William Wallace Allen (my great grandfather), 1837-1914; and Henry N. Allen, b. 1839.Apparently, the family didn't remain in St. Lawrence Co. for long, because William was born in Oneida Co., NY, in 1837. Later, the family moved to Geauga Co., Ohio, where Asabel died, but I don't know what year. I would be most appreciative if you would send me any information you have about your Asabel Allen's father, grandfather, uncles, and the county in Vermont from which they came.Do you think there is a connection?
