I have some on Smith C. Allen, but am also searching for his parents.Any ideas?I also have a puzzle to solve: in the LDS site, I find three different entries, one is Smith C. Allen, m. Susan HINTON, 12 May 1842.It shows her b. in NJ and lists a definite birth for him in NJ 19 Apr 1810.Here's the trouble - The other entries don't agree. One is Smith C Allen b. 19 Apr 1810 NJ, m. Susan DAY NJ ca. 1814.It is under this listing that we find the children from his first marriage, incl. Mary Jane. The third listing is for Smith COBB ALLEN, b. Mendham Twp., Morris Co., NJ ca. 1804.Married to Keziah DAY, b. 28 Dec 1808, Mendham Twp. Morris Co, NJ.
The problem is that each of these contain some truth. My suspicion is that Smith C, and Smith Cobb, are the same, and that the researcher listed Susan DAY, confusing the first name with the second wife's name.Do you have any ideas about all of this?
This is the fourth source - family papers put together by my grandmother years ago, ending about 1970.In these, one S. CLAY ALLEN, b. 19 Apr 1810 NJ, d. unknown. He evidently went by Clay, so Cobb is in error. If it's the same man.I show him married to ? DAY.Children are Mary Jane, 2 Nov 1934, Sarah, 17 Jan 1836, Jacob Brown b. 20 Sept 1837(from whom I'm descended), Caroline and Emmaline, twins, b. 1 Mar 1839, and Matilda b. 18 Dec 1840.I show Clay married to Susan Hinton by 1842, having six more children.
Can you add to all of this?I have more info on surnames of spouses, etc. Please contact me at my email!Susan Allen Braud
