I've posted this before, but here's more info on the family of Anna James Allen (b 8/31/1823 in Telfair County, GA; died 11/1/1895 in Live Oak, Suwanee County, FL) who married Edward Church Howland on 9/22/1843. Anna is the daughter of James and Pheriba (or Pheriby)(maiden name unknown). That's where the line ends. According to Frances Kolner's book, The Descendants of Edward Church Howland, this family came to Telfair County from Northwest N.C. in the early 1800s (the unknown Allens). Their children were James who m. Pheriba (or Pheriby), Henry, William, John, Dennis, Isaac, David, and Benjamin F. Allen. Henry and William, she believes, moved back to North Carolina, and William is believed to be the father of a William Allen that served as Governor and then Senator of Ohio. Anna had three siblings: Eliza (b 1811) m. David Gornto in Irwin County, GA; sister Fairiby (b 1815) m. William R. Hays in Madison County, FL; and Robert. Can anyone identify the parents of James and Pheriba Allen of Telfair County, GA?
