Re: Allens in Orange Co. NC and SW Va.

The brother of James Allen, George Allen was my GGGGrandfather. They were both the sons of Dougherty Allen and Rebecca Gillan. Dougherty and Rebecca ware married in New Castle Delaware 11/28/1759. Their oldestsons, William Allen b. 7/23/1860 and John Allen b. 2/14/1762 were born in New Castle, Delaware. I don't know the place of birth of their third son Eli Allen b. 1764. Their other sons Garrison Allen b. 1766, George Allen, Sr. b.1770 and James Allen b. 1775 were born in Orange Co., NC. The family migrated to Washington Co. VA in an area near Smyth Co. before 1892. There were at least two Jacob Allens in Washington Co., VA. One married in Washington Co., VA in 1822. The other Jacob, my GGGrandfather, married Elizabeth Wheeler at Cumberland Gap about 1826.If you would like to exchange information my address is ghleach@ptsi.net
