Cathy is here a copy of a letter that I just e-mailed to Betty Stokes.Thought I would go ahead and put it on the forum for you instead of e-mailing you also.Patsy
I corresponded last year with you on the Allens. At that time I was looking and still am looking for the parents and siblings of Columbus H. Allen, b. June 1, 1848 Ga. died Jan 13, 1896 Calhoun Co. Al. buried Eulaton Meth. Church Cem. Eulaton, Calhoun Co., Al.Married Rachel E. Lloyd on Dec 19, 1875.Had two daus. Nancy C. Allen and Lou E. Allen.
Now, a Lloyd cousin has sent to me a copy of Columbus's will.He names four daughters (surprised). The unknown two are Cyntha E. Allen (Wileman) and Mary A. Allen. We have no idea where they came from. The only thing I can figure out is that he was married before he married Rachel. His will was written in 1893, so if the other two females were born after 1880 which they are not on the 1880 Calhoun Co. Census, how could Cyntha be old enough to be married.
What is odd about the will is he leaves all his real estate and persoanl property that he has and may have at the time of his death to his beloved wife, Rachel, then to be equally divided between his daughters, Lula E. Allen and Nancy C. Martin (Married to Rev. R. H. Martin).
Then to the other two daus, he only leaves them the sum of $5.00 ea. Why didn't they get a share of the estate?
There are no mention of him having any siblings (drat) or parents (double drat).
The executors of the estate are his wife Rachel E. Allen and Smith Parker.Who is this Smith Parker? Is he the uncle of the other two daus?I've found no Parkers in any of my lines as of yet, so as far as I know he isn't blood kin to my line.I thought the given name Smith was kind of odd, but then, on rootsweb search found a whole bunch of Smith Parkers, but have no ides which one if any would be this Smith Parker. To be name Executor he would have had to be someone that Columbus would have trusted completely.
The witnesses are E. J. Haynie and ? ? Haynes.I have found a Haynes that married a Lloyd, also a Haynes that married a Ford, who I believe is the son of the Haynes that married the Lloyd. The male Hayne that married the Ford female is also the sister of the father of Caleb Milton Ford that marry Lula (Lou) Allen). It gets more and more confusing. So the Haynes knew and were married into the Ford and Lloyd family and then were close enough friends of Columbus Allen to witness his will.
Then in the family part of the Eulaton Meth. Church Cem is a Haynie buried ( I have no idea how he belongs).
So now, in your vast amount of Allens information does any of this make sense or connect with you?
Again thanks for any help that you might be able to give me. Patsy Ford Childs email@example.com
