I am taking a long shot, but would like to ask if you can connect the following to your line.I am trying to connect my HOLCOMB line to Mrs. W. C. Allen of Buford who was listed as a surviving sister in the obituary of Joshua T. Holcomb, (died 1931, Griffin, GA).Joshua named a son, by 3rd wife Catherine "Miss Katy" Lee Holcomb, Woodrow COLUMBUS Holcomb. One of Catherine Lee Holcomb's relatives was known as "Uncle LUM" according to Woodrow's son, Barry Holcombe. Joshua and his sister, Mrs. W. C. Allen's father, Bennett G. Holcomb, is buried in Buford, GA.I do not know which sister is Mrs. Allen; my guess is that it could be a Vandy, Vanda, Jessie Lee, Jewel, or Cora E. Their father, Bennett was married to a Nancy Wilburn,(gravesite unknown) and later to an Octavia, which is buried near Bennett in the Harmony Baptist Cemetery, Buford, Hall Co., GA. I do not know Bennett's occupation, but there was a large tannery in the Buford area, owned by Bona Allen.I do know that Joshua was a leather worker at the tannery.Joshua also worked for Shadburn Bros. Harness Shop and later worked as a shoemaker in Griffin (1920), for W. E. Powell.Joshua's second wife, Mary Elizabeth Shoemake/Shoemaker's father was also a shoemaker in the Buford area. Also, Joshua's sister Savannah, "Aunt Vi" 's husband, W.N. Wilkinson was also a shoemaker, and they moved to Houston, TX, at least by 1930, and named their son Victor Allen Wilkinson. We are dedicating Bennett's grave April/May 2001 and would like to connect with this line to invite descendant's to attend. Thanks for any help!
