"Squire" David Almas b. 10 Mar 1822 Ancaster Twp, Wentworth, Ontario D. 4 Dec 1903 Hagersville. Intered Hagersville Cemetery. M. 23 apr 1846 Maria Emily Burns b. 14 Oct 1818 in Ireland. d. 2 Apr 1878 Hagersville, Intered St Peter's Anglican Church Cemetery, Hamilton. She was the d/o James Burns & Mary Young. David & Maria were married by Rev. W. McMurray, St John's Anglican, Ancaster, Wtn: John Campbell & Eliza Burns. David did m. again 25 Mar 1884 in Dunnville, Haldimand, Ontario to Maria's sister, a widow, Rebecca (Burns) Winskill. David & Rebecca were both a little long in the tooth though to start a new family.
Joseph Seymour Almas was the 8th of 9 children.
David Almas arrive in Hagersville when there were only a few scatted clearings in the bush, and as farmer, hotel keeper, stage proprietor, merchant, Village commisioner and magistrate, played an important part in the founding of the settlement. David was the oldest of 11 children of Col. John Baker Almas & Janet Campbell
