My name is Barbara (Hays) Clayton, the daughter of Dewey and Florence (Altevogt) Hays. My father died in 1994 and is buried in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield, Il. My mother Florence is the daughter of the late Gus and Vera (Stark)Altevogt. Gus died in 1998 in St. John's Hospital in Springfield after suffering cardiovascular collapse, which seems to be hereditary in the Altevogt family. Gus is buried in St. Johns Cemetery in Irving, Il. Gus was the son of John and Lettie Bell (Sammons) Altevogt. Both are buried in McCord Cemetery in rural Irving, Il. Both were born in Montgomery County, Il. John Altevogt was the son of Louis and Anna (Heidemann)Altevogt. Louis Altevogt was born in Germany, what part specifically is not known, but there are Altevogt's I communicate with in Hagen, Germany on the Dutch border and they are cousins somehow to this family. Anna Heidemann was born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1860 and her parents, John and Anna (?)Heidemann were both born in Germany. John in Westfallen, Germany and Anna was born in Oldendorph,Germany. This data is found on Anna (Heidemann) Altevogt's death certificate in Montgomery County, Il and on John and Anna (?)Heidemann's death certificates on file in Montgomery County, Il. John Heidemann arrived in the US in 1859 and enlisted in the Civil War with the state of Missouri, with Company E, 5th Missouri Volunteers. Any help with this line would be greatly appreciated!
