1.ANDREW1 DEBOW was born July 30, 1763 in Orange County, NJ1, and died January 10, 1822 in Orange County, NJ2,3.He married MATINA ALYEA3 July 25, 17803.She was born January 10, 1763 in Orange County, NJ3, and died October 09, 1841 in Batavia, NY3.
Notes for ANDREW DEBOW:
From a letter written by Edward E. Mix (1863-1840) to his cousin Edward Darrow in Chicago, Illinois, postmarked 11/26/1901Mailed in Albion, NY .The paper has a business heading "EDWARD E. MIXWHOLESALE DEALER IN APPLES, POTATOES, ETC"
"Dear Cousin,
Have been looking up the family history since you wrote asking for information. The facts I am able to send today were compiled by Ebenezer Mix, my double great grand uncle. He had traced both the DeBow and Mix families and we consider him absolutely correct.
The DeBow family he traced to France.they left France with the Hugenots and went to Holland and lived there long enough to be counted as Dutch.Came to New York with the Early Dutch settlers and settled in Orange Co., New Jersey.
Some of the Alyeas reside in Orange County at present which would indicate that Andrew DeBow was married there. In 1811 Andrew Debow and Family bought several hundred acres of land upon arriving at Batavia.the southern part of the village now covers the land.He was followed by his brother whose wife was a sister of Matina Alyea and some cousins who bought land ajoining so that for 3 miles the land was owned by the family. Now there is not one of the family there.
Elinor (sic) McCormick is of Scotch descent, her ancestor having followed John Knox during his preaching into Ireland from which place her father migrated to New York and then to Orange Co. NJ.
This is all I have been able to give you of our history.Hope that should you ever come East may have the pleasure of meeting you.
Yours truly,
E.E. Mix"
