My great grandfather, Edward Amis, was born in 1853 and is buried in Campbell TX.He died a few months before my grandfather was born.I have very little information about him, except that in 1877 he married Virginia Carrie Stinson. But according to one source, there is a handwritten book about Campbell TX found in the Greenville, TX library, which states: Mrs. Amis resided in Greenville and had three boys in the Marshall School, these being Ed, George and Bunk, promising pupils and highly esteemed. After doing business in Campbell for some years, George and Bunk moved to Wylie in Collin County TX and conducted a successful business there for many years.George married and reared a family, but Bunk lived on in single blessedness for many years. Ed bought a home near Commerce and died there.Other children in the Amis family were Warren, Jose and Mrs. Laroque..."
Perhaps the three "children" were actually nephews.Could Rankin have been "Bunk" and possibly he eventually did marry and have children? What relation were Warren, Jose and Mrs. Laroque to the three boys?
According to family lore, Ed Amis was from Georgia not Mississippi. But my grandfather may have been thinking of the Sheppard's origins, not his father's side.
If any information turns up I would appreciate it.
