This is not a name that I am researching but I am familiar with finding information online on Nova Scotian families.Your James Edward Annandwas actually born in Gays River, Halifax County, NS according to his marriage record and his wife was Isabella A Kerr. The record can be found on the Nova Scotia Vital Stat website which is a free and searchable site maintained by the Nova Scotia Provincial Archives. You will probably need to download a viewer program which is free on the website to see the actual record.

This is a great site although records were only kept sporadically and did not become mandatory until after 1900.However you can usually find enough to build a pretty good family history
The first Canadian Census to list all members of the family was in 1871.

The 1891 Census is available free at
Please note that the family surname is mis-transcribed “Armand” in 1891.
The family now consisted of James and his wife Isabell and8 children, Esty-12; Maggie-10;Egbert-8;George-6;Samuel-4;Sylvia-2;James A.-1
Sometime between the above 1891 Census and 1901, Isabella died and in 1901 Census James is listed as a widower. He is also referred to as J E Annand and his occupation is “merchant” instead offarmer. The family is now living in the Musquodoboit Harbour District of Halifax Co.Not sure if this means they moved or simply that the District lines changed. All his children are still living in the family home and there are two more sons David E age 9 and Charles W age 7.Egbert is employed as a teacher.
It would seem that James may have died sometime between 1901 and 1904?It would appear that most of his children went to the U.S.Below are the families in the 1920 U,S, census that would seem to be children ofJ E. Annand and Isabella Kerr

Hope this helps your research
