Arciniega
I desend from Jose Antonio Arciniega who with his elder brother Jose Luis arrived in Puebla, Puebla from the Vascongadas. In the second third of the 19th Century the brothers settled on their ranch in Villa Ocampo, Durango. Jose Antonio was, with his eldest son, Refugio, at times, the local judge.
During the Revolution of 1910, Jose Antonio and Refugio were hanged by the Dorados de Villa. The family was dispersed and the ranch property lost. Jose Antonio del Refigio Arciniega Aponte, my grand father and the middle son of Jose Antonio Arciniega son fled by train to El Paso, TX.
People that recalled the brothers rememmber that they spoke an odd form of
Spanish. It was Basque, my grand father spoke the language.
I am interested in locating more information on Jose Antonio and Jose Luis Arciniega. Additionally, I would like also to know whatever happened to the city of Arciniega in northern Spain. Was the name changed, did it become incorporated into a greater municipality?
