I have done some research into the genealogy of the name Ariss.
Apparently comes from the Baron D'Aras who came over from France in 1066 with William the Conq.
For his troubles he was given huge tracts of land which subsequent generations squandered away.
The family eventually became farming stock, mostly living around Banbury Cross.
There is a small village called Upper (or is it Lower, I can't remember offhand) Boddington, that has a graveyard with Ariss's stretching back hundreds of years.
There are still Ariss's living in the village.
My Grandfather was born there - William Frederic Ariss.
He was one of fourteen children, so there is a few of us about.
If you or anyone else is interested in finding out more on the Ariss family, please respond or e-mail
