My Arnett ancestors did not go to Illinois. We have traced our Arnetts back to Virginia.I can give you a brief little run down on our Arnett ancestors here. The research we are now doing is in Loudoun County, VA and the predecessorcounty, Fairfax. These are close to Washington DC.Here's a summary of our Arnetts:
Our Arnett Ancestors:
Alexander and Ruth Arnett (Alexander died in 1769 in Loudoun County, VA) Thomas Arnett Sr. and Sarah (Thomas born in VA, died in Bath County, KY in 1808) Thomas Arnett Jr. and Martha McFerran (Thomas born in VA, lived in Bath Co. KY and died in Montgomery Co., Indiana in 1847) Ahijah Arnett and Parmelia Evans (Ahijah born in Kentucky, lived in MO and died in Menard Co. TX in 1872) Thomas McFarland Arnett and Malinda Dunning (Thomas born in KY, lived in MO and died in Baylor Couynty, TX in 1900) Ahijah “Babe” Arnett and Loucinda Norton (Babe was born in MO and died in Arizona in 1929) Thomas William Arnett and Annie Gale (Thomas was born in TX and died in Arizona in 1973)
The name John was used a lot in our family line.Thomas and Sarah, mentioned above had a son named John, born about 1770 in VA, married to Rebecca Whitcraft in KY and died in Bath County KY in 1818.Depending on the dates, this could be your ancestor.John had a son named Cleanthus who migrated to Fulton County, IL and died there in 1889.Cleanthus had a son named John but I don't have a Peter lised among John's children.
We have had success in using the DNA test to prove or disprove our relationships.Meri Arnett, a lawyer in Portland OR, had traced her ancestry to a Jacob Arnett who showed up in Tennesee in the early 1800s.She noticed that we had a Jacob Arnett living with our family in Loudoun County VA at about the right time to be the same Jacob Arnett. But she had no paper trail across the mountains to Tennesee. So we compared my DNA with her brother's and it was an exact match. We have proven we are genetic cousins, making the Jacob connection practically certain.
My cousin, Roc Arnett married a woman named Sydney Arnett. They have always wondered if they are related because they had the same last name. The DNA of Sydney's brother compared wiht my DNA has proven these two families are not related.
