The Arno family in Whitby later moved to Sheffield and Rotherham, because the shipbuilding and whaling industries declined in Whitby and the steel industry in Sheffield was beginning to boom. There are still members of the Whitby Arno's living in Rotherham and Sheffield and I met Patrick Arno and his daughter back in 1990 (about). There is a family gravestone outside St. Mary's Church, Whitby, lising a lot of the Arno family and some of the houses they lived in are still there, I have photographs. I have a lot of info on the Arno's of Whitby because I tried to see if there was a connextion to my family from London, but I could not find a connextion. As the name Arno is a Nordic name (ARN means Eagle), the family may have been Scandinavian who were in the whaling industry and settled in Whitby. - John Arno - England
