This is what I know about the pioneer Arrasmith family of Story County. William and Alvina Grove Arrasmith were the parents of James, his son was Claridon, his son is Robert, his daughter is me (Mary Sue). William was born in Bath County Kentucky. He and his brother Wesley moved to Indiana where they farmed. They also met and married sisters Alvina and Catherine Grove. They moved to Story County in 1852. Their parents Massey and Alvina followed in 1856. Some of the Grove brothers also followed. One of their descendents gave the city of Ames property that became a park named after his wife Inis Grove. James was the first pioneer child born in Story County. There were 15 children born to William and Alvina at the "homestead" on Arrasmith trail. One child William Henry a twin died in infancy. The property was passed down to the youngest daughter Edith Mirium Arrasmith Hanson. Her only son Roy is survived by a son David Hanson. I have available the DOB and DOD and spouse names for all the children of William and Alvina and the descendents of James if anyone is interested.
