Larry, I know its been some time since you've posted this and I haven't been on here in years; but a new medical problem of my sister's has me looking for new info again.I saw your post and it reminded me of something my Mom told me once. My Dad was Emmett Artrip from Russell Co., VA and he had three sisters: Bess, Madge, and Gaye Nell. They lived in Artrip, VA and to put it bluntly Artrips are all that lived there and that's all they knew and all three sisters married Artrips. YIKES! Well, as a child I was asking questions as children do and I wanted to know why Aunt Gaye Nell was an Artrip, too.My mother being rather embarassed explained that Gaye Nell married Burt Artrip who was from Dayton, Ohio and was a totally different group of Artrips. That settled my curiousity for the moment but it didn't explain why the other two Aunts married Artrips, also. One of them, Madge married my mother's Grandfather Sim whose wife Cara had died in childbirth.Try to figure that out! The other one, Bess married my mother's Uncle Ivory Dale Artrip...Sim's son.Keeping it all in the family! One interesting fact I found is that Cara named her three children after land features:Ivory "Dale", Something "Glen", and Lucy "Valley", my Grandmother. Cara died having twin girls which she named after flowers but I can't recall the names(they also died). I have a second cousin named for Cara though my father said everyone called her Carie and she had bright red hair just like I do and no one else in the family does.My grandmother loved my redhair and made me leave it long like her mother's. I still do. But it was true about Burt being from Ohio and the time frame would be right for him to have been in WWI. He died back in the 60s and was very old then. His wife, my aunt Gaye Nell who was much, much younger is still alive. She still lives in Russell Co...Hoanaker, I believe. I haven't seen her since my father passed away a few years ago, but my sister stays in touch with her.She says that Gaye Nell has lots of pictures from the 30s, 40s, and 50s from Artrip, VA.If you'd like me to get in touch with her or find out if she has an e-mail, I will.I actually think the person on this forum who signs on as Ginny may be her Daughter. This really gets so interesting, doesn't it!Teresa Artrip WardBig Stone Gap, VA
